So, what makes me qualified to do this and passionate about it?
Lived experience, that’s what:
I’ve been caring for family members on and off for about 20 years – yes, I’ve made mistakes but I’m hoping I can help you avoid the same ones. There have been numerous disabilities & long term health conditions in my family – some are only just coming to the fore now, so every day is a school day. Some of them are rare genetic conditions, some are more common.
I’m not going to pretend that I have experience of or have even heard of every singleĀ thing that can possibly go wonky with the human body, but what I can offer is support. As more people become aware of what I stand for, the more likely it is for people with the same or similar conditions to connect.
It’s not just camaraderie either, I’m planning on offering help with work issues including self-employment, guidance for employers, & a whole host of other things. All I ask is that you bear with me please… I’ve got ADHD, Autism, HSD, CFS/ME & cancer to name but a few things & still co-care for a relative. My intentions are good but sometimes it takes me a little longer to deliver…
So whether you have been diagnosed or not, have a visible or invisible disability, or no disability or health condition at all, are a carer (paid or unpaid) or just need a little help, you’re very welcome here. Let’s help each other.
