…Because You Care & So Do We
We’re not perfect (Who is?!) but we are doing our best to help this poorly old planet of ours. This can be demonstrated in a variety of ways, including:
- Reducing waste by reusing and recycling, so if your order arrives is less than pristine packaging, you absolutely know why…
- We use eco aware suppliers who strive to be carbon neutral
- We stock eco friendly products, some items have been made made out of recycled plastic bottles, for instance
- We encourage gardening! As well as the obvious benefits to the planet, you are attracting pollinators and therefore helping other wildlife. Throw in some British native plants which are in decline (seeds available here) & you’re really doing your bit.
Last year we donated some hedgehog food to The Vale Wildlife Hospital & Rehabilitation Centre, to help them help their underweight hedgehogs make it through the winter. The warm autumn meant that some litters were born too late in the year for the hoglets to be fat and therefore robust enough to survive hibernation.
Sadly, hedgehogs are in decline, please don’t feed them bread & milk, it upsets their stomachs. Equally, some hedgehog food contains meal worms, that gives hedgies metatastic disease. Meal worms are best given to birds.
This centre does an amazing job with hedgehogs and a plethora of other creatures too, they have a huge catchment and I don’t know how they manage with the amount of patients that get brought in.
Other organisations that quietly do phenomenal jobs in the background are Worcester Snoezelen, St Richard’s Hospice, and Acorns Children’s Hospice. We donated insect hotels to each organisation. The thinking behind this was that the soothing power of nature might be beneficial to visitors and staff alike… Vegetation is at the bottom of the food chain and insects are the next tier up. If we look after the plants and the not-so-creepy crawlies, they will attract birds, bats and other creatures that feed on them; who in turn will attract larger creatures who prey on them; and so on. Ecosystems are incredible things, and by getting the basics right, we can increase biodiversity and hopefully restore some of the balance we have have interfered with.
We also stock seeds of plants that are good for pollinators, including British natives like are Field Poppy and Cornflower. The Plantable Wildflower Seed Cards contain a mix.
For The Big Help Out, I’ve put together a new section concerned with looking after people, I suppose getting them to flourish. If you’ve found yourself caring for a relative like me, why not have a look at our Fair Care section? It’s constantly evolving as I navigate the minefield of unpaid care with little information or clue to start with! I hope you can learn from my mistakes.
I hope you find it helpful, please get in touch if there’s anything you’d like to see…
About Nourish Flourish UK
I Hope You’re Enjoying Our Little Piece Of The Internet – Here’s The Inside Info…
I’m Clare, Chief/Only Fraggle here at Nourish Flourish UK HQ. I’m putting the can in CANcer & a few other disabilities besides: I’ve got a rare genetic condition which gave me cancer, I’m going through the diagnostic process for autism and ADD, and have suffered from ME/CFS for years, have HSD and fibromyalgic type pain as well as anxiety and depression. I have been caring for relatives on and off for most of my adult life, but currently, this is the most intensive it’s been. EVER.
“So, why on earth are you messing about with a website?” I hear you ask, well, I started messing about on Etsy first, found out I really enjoyed it but discovered that a large proportion of your takings goes to Etsy itself; whilst feeling frustrated that I could give my customers so much more in terms of information, value and hopefully joy… Nourish Flourish UK is a piece of me, it’s about all the things that are at my core, that I value the most. After being employed in a number of different sectors and either not being fulfilled or being very badly bullied; which impacted on my health further; I decided it was time and to follow my heart. I’ve hankered after running my own business and being an artist and author for years, and here I am, bearing my soul on the internet in the hope that it helps someone, maybe that person is you?
Our Ethos
We’re here to help you flourish by nourishing your hearts, souls, minds and environments. Conservation, cultivation, education, and relaxation are our markers for total wellbeing, mental and physical. As a family, our natures are to nurture; and we endeavour to nurture nature. We appreciate the natural world, particularly because of the inspiration it gives us and the effect it has on our wellbeing. After remaining (mostly) positive despite our health issues; we wanted to share the wild’s influence with others; in return we try to give it as much of a helping hand as we can.
Our carefully chosen products fall into at least one of our categories: Cards and presents, for instance, cultivate relationships and can still be educational, cultivating in a horticultural and/or relaxing as well.
Our Vision
To bring happiness to the people you care about whilst being as sustainable as possible – we are human & there’s always room for improvement on this score but that’s the plan! We are, after all, a company with a conscience. We aim to provide exemplary customer service too.
Our Promise
We strive to reuse as much packing material as possible. In our book, reuse is the best form of recycling. Plastics will only be used when strictly necessary, in order to reduce the amount of plastic in the world. Products that have been pre-packed in plastic will remain that way just in case you, our lovely customers, can reuse it. Be assured that we will not be buying any new plastic in…
